Project Kickoff Meeting

On Saturday March 9 members of the design team held a project kickoff meeting together with three invited guests: Presbytera Mirela Tudora (Orthodox Design Consultant), Micah Martin (Architect, Abbots Creek Studios), and Andrew Wells (General Contractor, RPM Partners). This was an in-person meeting at HTOC which allowed members of the design team to review and provide feedback to Pres Mirela on her initial conceptual sketches and 3D renderings, with Micah and Andrew available to address architectural and structural details. Our team used the design requirements provided by our various ministry champions to guide our comments to Pres. Mirela about her proposed floor plan and space allocations. We came away from the meeting very excited by the early designs we had seen, and are looking forward to seeing the next iteration! After the meeting, many of the attendees made a site visit to the Cornwallis Rd property for a first-hand look. Afterwards, Casey Garland drove Pres. Mirela to Holy Cross in Kernersville, so that she might be able to see for herself an Orthodox church built by RPM Partners. The design team feels like we are making good progress towards having enough of a design completed so that we can schedule another preliminary site plan review meeting with the City of Durham in the near future.  We hope to get more clarification at that meeting about our utility options and their estimated costs.
